Find out about the UK Children's Fine Art Competition and Free Exhibition Website for Schools

The main objective of the annual UK Children's Fine Art Competition (UKCFAC) is to endow children with an understanding of the best of human virtues through art. Each year a different theme is set and children produce work broadly related to that theme. It is a superb cross curricular exploration in History, Geography, Citizenship as well as a serious art competition.

Judging is done by a renowned panel of UK artists and there are some great prizes awarded. ALL children receive a certificate of achievement. All work is then submitted to the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts, one of the largest free fine art competitions for children in the world, which regularly receives over 25,000 entries from around 70 countries.

The UKCFAC has an international award category and welcomes entries from all nations. And the new website also features a new free online showcase for schools worldwide

Staffordshire Fine Arts is the only free e-commerce portal and publisher for all creatively driven individuals and groups within the Staffordshire and surrounding area.

It is The Midlands' premier location for high quality, cost effective fine art printing and scanning

For businesses and organisations across The UK it''s the place for the very best in recession busting corporate art options - guaranteed to rejuvenate your workspace and inspire both staff and visitors.

Stoke-on-Trent Debates The Legacy of The Miners'' Strike
Image 1

THE BIG "A" DEBATE

As part of a series of events to commemorate The Miners' Strike and celebrate the mining industry, Theartbay Gallery  put on a "Question Time" style debate at The Forum Theatre in Hanley to discuss the legacy of The Miners' Strike over the last 25 years; an episode in Britain''s recent past which affected millions of people, both directly and indirectly. Judging by the levels of emotion in The Forum Theatre on the evening of Wednesday 3, it is clear that the humanitarian cost of The Miners' Strike 1984-1985 is immeasurable.

One of the exciting things was that people attended from all over the country (Durham, Nottingham, Derby, Wales, Coventry). Stoke-on-Trent hosted a debate about the NATIONAL legacy of The Strike and there were few parochial references. The wide range of ages among the audience was also pleasing; it was an educational, as well as a, long overdue, scrutiny event

As organiser, Theartbay, Fenton, would like to thank the following:

The panellists – Edwina Currie, George Galloway MP, Ken Loach, David Hencke and Mike Nattrass MEP;

The chairman – Oliver Speight;

Liaison – Jilly Stubbs, Sue Law-Webb;

Reception – Sid and Kendal Kirkham;

Microphones – Stephanie Boden, Damian Rowe, Darren Smallwood, Joanne Clews, Louise Smith;

Film – Andrew Stuart, James Bell and Staffs Live Film Crew;

Strike footage soundtrack – Steve Shaw;

The "Big A" logo – Harry Davies;

Photography – Dave Chesters.

We would also like to thank Laura Mcmullan BBC, Terry Walsh BBC Radio Stoke, Tony Walley and Mike Rawlins at Pitsnpots, Martin Tideswell and Mike Sassi of The Sentinel, Clare Short, Tony Benn, Peter Tatchell, Mike Stubbs, Brenda Procter, Harry Davies, Mark Fisher, Mick Bell and Martin Hulme.

Finally I'd like to thank the audience for their attendance and involvement.

Stoke City Artistry in Man Utd''s Box?
Image 1

Two of Theartbay''s artists make up 50% of Old Trafford''s exhibitors, during its season long display within the illustrious "Gallery". It''s a great achievement for Sid Kirkham, known as "The Potteries'' Lowry" and Aitch, whose expressionist paintings depict industrial decline.

"The Gallery" is Manchester United''s most prestigious hospitality area, with companies and the super-rich paying £16,000 a season to be wined and dined before and after games. The members of "The Gallery" get to invite their own guests, so there are new people every week from all over the country seeing the paintings. It''s absolutely amazing for Theartbay and art in Stoke-on-Trent.

Theartbay is one of just two galleries selected to supply work to the Theatre of Dreams this season. The other is in up-market Cheshire town Wilmslow.

It was Nick Owen, of BBC Midlands Today, who labelled Sid Kirkham''s work Lowryesque and ignited a demand for Sid''s work which has seen him become one of the biggest selling painters in the UK.

Well Sid returned the complement on Thursday 9th July with a visit to BBC Midlands Today studios and a surprise presentation on-air to the famous broadcaster and Chairman of Luton Town Football Club. You can see it happen here. Video supplied courtesy of BBC Midlands Today.
